Privacy policy

The short version

Moovie has no accounts and no ads. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number, and we don't sell data.

Moovie Premium is an optional purchase made through Apple or Google. Your payment card details never reach us.

What the app stores on our servers

Device ID: a random identifier the app creates on your phone. It is sent when you host or join an Imposter room so the room knows which seat is yours. It isn't linked to your name or contact details.

Room data: the room code, the name each player types, the deck and the moves of the game. Rooms and everything in them are deleted 12 hours after the last move.

Charades, Higher or Lower and the pass-the-phone round run on your phone only. Nothing from those games is sent to us.

New deck alerts: only if you turn them on (see Notifications below).

Moovie Premium

Moovie Premium is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-off lifetime purchase. Apple or Google takes the payment; no payment card details reach Moovie.

Purchases are processed by RevenueCat, which stores your purchase history (the plan, price, dates and the store's receipt) against an anonymous install ID, a random identifier the app creates on your phone. It tells the app whether Premium is active and isn't linked to your name or email.

Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Cancel or change a plan in your App Store or Google Play account settings; deleting the app doesn't cancel it. Lifetime is a single payment and doesn't renew.

On a new phone, or after reinstalling, use Restore purchases in the app while signed in to the same Apple or Google account.

Analytics and crash reports

We use Google Firebase Analytics to count how the games are used (for example, which game was started) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports. These include technical details such as the app version, device model and operating system. We use them only to fix problems and improve the games.

We also use PostHog, hosted in the EU (eu.posthog.com), to see how the app is used: events such as opening a screen or starting a game, tied to the same anonymous install ID. PostHog receives no names or email addresses, IP addresses are anonymised, and session replay is off.

Website analytics

getmoovie.app uses PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count page views and where visitors arrive from. It is set up without cookies and without local storage, so the site does not ask for consent for it.

PostHog receives the page address, the referring page, browser and device type, and an approximate country. IP addresses are anonymised. The site does not record sessions or screens, and it does not build profiles of visitors.

Notifications

Game night reminder: an optional weekly reminder that your phone schedules itself. It works on your phone only and nothing is sent to us.

New deck alerts: optional push notifications sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging. If you turn them on, our server stores your phone's push token, its platform (iOS or Android) and the app language, keyed by the anonymous install ID. Turning alerts off in Settings deletes this record.

Permissions

Motion: Charades reads your phone's motion sensor to notice when you tilt it. The readings stay on your phone.

Notifications: asked for only when you turn on the game night reminder or new deck alerts.

Film data

Film titles and facts come from TMDB. Decks are downloaded from our servers and contain no personal data.

Your choices

Leave a room at any time; it is deleted 12 hours after the last move. Deleting the app removes its device ID and everything stored on your phone.

Turn off the reminder or new deck alerts in Settings at any time. Turning off alerts deletes your push token from our server.

Cancel Premium in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases under their privacy policies.
